The Reticular Activating System: Why You Suddenly Notice Opportunities

Dec 15, 2025

The Neuroscience

Inside the brainstem is a filter called the Reticular Activating System (RAS).

It decides what information your brain pays attention to.

Every second your brain receives millions of sensory inputs. The RAS filters almost all of them out.

It prioritizes what aligns with your identity.

Why Identity Changes What You See

If you identify as someone who:

• struggles financially
• lacks confidence
• feels overlooked

Your RAS filters reality accordingly.

But when identity shifts, the filter changes.

You suddenly notice:

• business ideas
• aligned relationships
• financial opportunities

Action Steps

1. Prime Your RAS Each Morning

Write three statements:

"I notice opportunities to expand my income."

"I recognize aligned partnerships."

"I trust myself to take action."

2. Opportunity Tracking

At night write:

• One opportunity you noticed today
• One action you took

This trains your brain to look for more.
